Lean Six Sigma Projects

Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), focuses on Patient Empowered Care® and treating the "whole person" in their fight with cancer. In our continuing efforts to provide the Mother Standard® of care to our patients and providing care that accommodates their schedule, we developed our weekend service program for total Oncology Care. In order to better understand our patients' preferences we developed a survey to access their needs. The survey results indicated a need for Saturday and Sunday options.

  • Patients receive the same level of care from their team on the weekend as during the week

  • Patients have increased choices when scheduling appointments

  • Increased capacity will allow us to better meet patient preferences

  • Improved patient retention

  • Improved quality of life

  • Increased patient satisfaction

If our patients are not able to take off from work during the week, no problem. Now they can come to Cancer Treatment Centers of America® at Southwestern Regional Medical Center (Southwestern) whenever it is most convenient for them–including weekends–so they can get back to their lives quicker.

The comprehensive seven days/week service at Southwestern provides the following advantages:

  • Less time away from home and work

  • Accommodates patients' busy schedule

  • Gives patients more choices when scheduling appointments

  • Provides greater convenience for patients and their caregiver

  • Brings Patient Empowered Care to them every day of the week

The success of this program, which was implemented in the fall of 2010, is evidenced through patient interviews, case studies, clinician and staff interviews, and post-implementation data.
